Christmas Is Just 3 Months Away: 5 Things You Can Do to Be at Your Best Health by Then
Christmas is just three months away!
It might seem like there’s still plenty of time, but three months is actually the perfect amount of time to make some really positive changes to your health, fitness and lifestyle.
The best part? You don’t need to follow an extreme diet or spend hours in the gym every day.
A few simple changes, done consistently over the next 12 weeks, can have a huge impact on how you look, feel and move by Christmas.
At New Start PT, we help people over 30 lose weight, improve their fitness and rediscover their enjoyment of exercise. Here are 5 things you can start doing today to help you feel your best by Christmas.
1. Get Moving 3 Times a Week
If you’re currently not exercising regularly, don’t try to go from zero to six workouts a week.
Start with something realistic.
Aim to exercise around 3 times per week and make it something you can actually stick to.
This could include:
- Strength training
- Walking
- Cardio
- Personal training
- Swimming
- Any other form of exercise you enjoy
The goal isn’t to destroy yourself every workout.
The goal is to build a routine that you can maintain for the next three months — and beyond.
Consistency will always beat trying to do too much, burning yourself out, and giving up after a few weeks.
2. Start Eating Better — Not Less
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to get healthier is drastically cutting their food intake.
You might lose some weight initially, but extreme diets can be difficult to maintain and can leave you feeling hungry, tired and miserable.
Instead, start making small improvements to what you’re eating.
Try to:
- Eat more protein
- Eat more vegetables and fruit
- Drink more water
- Reduce highly processed foods
- Be more mindful of portion sizes
- Plan your meals before you get hungry
You don’t have to completely remove your favourite foods either.
Healthy eating should still allow you to enjoy life.
The aim is to create habits that help you feel better while still being realistic enough to maintain.
3. Get Your Sleep Back on Track
Sleep is often overlooked when people think about getting healthier.
But if you’re constantly tired, it becomes much harder to exercise, eat well and stay motivated.
Over the next three months, try to create a more consistent sleep routine.
Aim to:
- Go to bed and wake up at similar times
- Reduce screen time before bed
- Avoid large meals right before sleeping
- Limit caffeine later in the day
- Give yourself enough time to actually sleep
You might be surprised by how much easier healthy choices become when you’re well rested.
4. Stop Waiting Until January
This is probably the biggest one.
Every year, millions of people tell themselves:
“I’ll start in January.”
Then Christmas comes and goes, January arrives, and they’re trying to undo months of unhealthy habits.
Why wait?
You have three months between now and Christmas.
That’s enough time to build a regular exercise routine, improve your eating habits, lose some body fat, get stronger and start feeling better.
And you don’t have to wait until everything is perfect to begin.
If you have a bad meal, get back on track at your next meal.
If you miss a workout, get back to training at your next opportunity.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to keep moving forward.
5. Find a Form of Exercise You Actually Enjoy
If you hate exercising, you’re probably not going to stick with it for very long.
This is why we believe exercise shouldn’t feel like punishment.
The right type of training should help you feel stronger, more capable and better after you do it.
It might take some experimenting to find what works for you.
You might enjoy lifting weights.
You might prefer walking or cardio.
You might enjoy having a personal trainer who takes the guesswork out of your workouts.
Whatever it is, find something that makes you want to keep coming back.
When you start enjoying movement, staying consistent becomes much easier.
You Have 3 Months — Make Them Count
You don’t need to wait for a New Year’s resolution to start improving your health.
Three months is plenty of time to make meaningful changes.
By Christmas, you could be:
- Stronger
- Fitter
- Leaner
- More energetic
- More confident
- Moving better
- Feeling better about yourself
And perhaps most importantly, you could have built habits that continue well into the new year.
At New Start PT, we help people over 30 in Bowen Hills and across Brisbane lose weight, move better, feel stronger and learn to enjoy fitness again.
You don’t need to completely change your life overnight.
